While sorting photos recently, it struck me that I have unwittingly amassed a collection of photos of the letter ‘F.’ Strange, really. Here are a few:

I think I like this second to last one the best.

Kinda wish this metal plate was located on the side of my building— the rhythm of letterforms and the moody color gradient are so simple and pleasant.

School portrait day. Ok, not really but sort of reminds me of school portraits the kids bring home this time of year.

Petroglyph

Oftentimes when I’m shooting pictures of old trains or rusted machinery or digging through oily machine shops, I find unusual marks or symbols on some of the components. While some of the symbols are signs to precaution mechanics or obvious makers marks, some prove to be inscrutable seemingly more ancient petroglyph than anything else. Here’s one such mark:

It really burns my toast though that I didn’t notice the rain on my lens while snapping this shot; hindsight, eh?

Bruise

Have to admit that the colors in this remind me of the shades of blue and purple one gets from a really bad bruise (think of a real zinger from sliding in baseball, maybe like the one in ‘A League of Their Own‘). Or perhaps a field of lupine.

How’s everyone’s week so far?

Saying goodbye to the long days of sun for a while..

Digging

This weekend, I spent quite a bit of time tidying hard drives and folders of old work. It feels great to have a more orderly library of files and was fun to find old pieces I’d forgotten about. Here’s a discarded draft of an illustration that I found and liked:

Curious what this piece turned into as a final product? Check it out here.

What’d you guys do this weekend?

Blå

Another rainy morning makes me think of blue still more despite the warm golds and oranges of the fallen leaves.

It’s the day before Halloween, which in some places is referred to as Mischief Night or Devil’s Night. While I’m not much for Halloween pranks myself, I know someone who’s got some mischief of his very fuzzy sleeves:

There’s something rather pleasing about the geometric shapes of this train hardware. Usually it’s the colors or textures of old machinery that catches my attention but in this case I think it was the shapes.

Today may be international cat day, but it’s always cat day around here. Who could resist such a regal guy?

Rather happy with how this shot captures the essence of rain. Or is it oil?
