Over the last few years, I’ve undertaken a daily project to give myself an excuse to generate more sketches/artwork. In 2010 and 2011 I focused on self-portraits. By 2013 I’d grown tired of portraits of myself and worked on portraits of D’Art the cat. Last year I shifted to hand-drawn sketches, but started late and found it hard to stay on top of the drawings (at this moment, the project is unfinished, but I plan to wrap it up and post the drawings as I move along ).

This year, I’ve decided to go back to self-portraits—the familiar subject makes the project easier to manage. As usual, the daily pieces will be posted in the Daily365 section of the site.

How about you guys? Anyone else taking on a daily project this year? Do tell.

2015

Ok let’s just say it. 2014 was weird. Really WEIRD. Throughout the year there were positive notes and less positive ones and all sorts of sad, depressing, sometimes terrible happenings around the world. But it’s a new year and in a few hours the sun will rise on our next shot at making things better, brighter and braver. Let’s look back on 2015 in a year with a smile.

Happy New Year, Everyone! Let’s make it a good one…”let’s tell the world about it now, happy days are here again…!”

See last year’s NYE post here.

This year seems to have flown by…. it’s hard to say 2014 has been a great year given all the tragic news stories worldwide. It feels safe to say that 2014 has been, if nothing else, good n’ weird.

Since it’s the last Friday of this weird year, here’s one last installment of “weird music of the day” or wmotd. Since I started the year with a tune from Professor Kliq, it seemed appropriate to end with another of his tracks (or two).

Bust That Bust This and This by Professor Kliq

Check out the first wmotd here or review all of the wmotd selections from the year here.

It’s not even Christmas yet, let alone New Year’s Eve, but let’s admit it, this song is a good listen any time of year.

New Year’s Prayer by Jeff Buckley

I like to go dancing semi-regularly and sometimes I feel like this when dancing:

No, I’m not THAT tall, but this is exactly why I don’t wear higher heels when I dance— not because they’re uncomfortable (they’re not, generally) but because the “average” height for men in America includes children, apparently. (And yes, like the woman in the movie clip, I’ve almost been clotheslined with my own arm by guys who can’t/won’t lift their arm up high enough.

Mental Strain at Dawn by Jack Purvis

Emmma Donovan and the PutBacks from Melbourne

Haglél by Mugison

You can buy/download the whole album from Bandcamp here.

Spoonful by Howlin’ Wolf

So this week I wanted to share this remix of I miss you by Bjork but honestly the original video directed by John Kricfalusi is more interesting visually.

Ok.. so I like the main riff of this song, but the Theremin-y/whistle-y shrill bit(s)? Not so much. Even so, thought it was close enough to share… It’s the sort of track I might listen to on one of my long walks in an attempt to slow down my usually (very) brisk pace.

Shapeshifter Blues by Pilote

Halloween calls for something a little different.. a little silly. At least if you ask me.

Car Wash by the Easy Virtue Orchestra

Peculiar Fascination by Yasume

Last year, Fiona Apple recorded a cover of Pure Imagination from the 1971 film, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory as a soundtrack for the film below. The film (and accompanying game) is part of a campaign produced by Chipotle focused on food with integrity.

Read more about the film here and here

The song itself is available for download/purchase from iTunes, by the way.

It’s 10/10..Have a lucky day….

Or perhaps you’d prefer the album version of this song…
