  • Petroglyph

Oftentimes when I’m shooting pictures of old trains or rusted machinery or digging through oily machine shops, I find unusual marks or symbols on some of the components. While some of the symbols are signs to precaution mechanics or obvious makers marks, some prove to be inscrutable seemingly more ancient petroglyph than anything else. Here’s…

  • Bruise

Have to admit that the colors in this remind me of the shades of blue and purple one gets from a really bad bruise (think of a real zinger from sliding in baseball, maybe like the one in ‘A League of Their Own‘). Or perhaps a field of lupine. How’s everyone’s week so far? Update:…

  • Weekend

This week (and month, really) fleeeew by! Hope everyone had a fun, safe Halloween and is off to a great weekend!

  • BlÃ¥

Another rainy morning makes me think of blue still more despite the warm golds and oranges of the fallen leaves.

  • Geometric details

There’s something rather pleasing about the geometric shapes of this train hardware. Usually it’s the colors or textures of old machinery that catches my attention but in this case I think it was the shapes.

  • Drips

Rather happy with how this shot captures the essence of rain. Or is it oil? Update: Like this photo? It is now available as an archival matted print in my Etsy shop. It’s also available printed on shirts, pillows & totes here on Print All Over Me and on a few other products from Society6.

  • Cold values

I keep finding myself drawn to blue values and cold palettes without meaning to lately. See what I mean? How about you guys, have you found yourselves drawn to any particular colors lately?

  • Crazy

Crazy about the colors I caught in this photo. It was such a dark, overcast day full of downpours so capturing this makes getting soaked pretty worth it. How’s your week going, folks? Update: Like this photo? Now it’s available as a matted archival print here in my Etsy shop. It’s also available printed on…

  • Bleu

Feeling a blue today, one way or the other…Ready to move on to a cold, snowy winter.

  • Drizzle

Could do with a little rain on this overcast autumn day…

  • Gold and Blue

Here are a few more from the rainy days last week. Really liking the subtle golds and blues and the warm tones of the rain drops. Hope everyone’s week has gotten off to a good start. Any plans this week, guys?

  • Palette

There’s something about this photo, I don’t know what it is. I guess it’s the colors; their combination and proportions. Perhaps they remind me of Vincent Van Gogh’s work while he was in Arles. One of his variations of Augustine Roulin as ‘La Berceuse‘ (1, 2,3, 4)? Or maybe ‘Crab on its back?’Or maybe one…

  • Blur

The flash of colors in these outakes make me think of blue and yellow macaws flapping by. There used to be an antique store by the harbor with such a parrot who greeted visitors at the door. These days, the shop has moved to Maine and the parrot is now a green wing, but I’m…

  • Wet Rainbow

Pleasantly surprised this shot came out. At this point in the afternoon, it was raining so hard I was having trouble seeing and had to keep wiping off my lens.

  • Soaked

Last week we finally got some much needed rain. So that meant a few things for me: working out inside and spending hours in the rain with my camera. It sounds nuts, I know, but putting up with the wet weather is worth it when you get shots like this: Looking forward to sharing more…

  • Fuel

Sleep patterns always seem to get erratic when the seasons change and with that energy levels can fluctuate too. Today, I could do with a little more energy so this picture seemed rather appropriate. Found it the other day while exploring a train yard. Update: Like this photo? Now it’s available as a matted archival…

  • Figures

Really digging this combination of color palette and off-kilter numbers. Reminds me of spreadsheets gone awry.

  • Tiny

    The tiniest texture…

  • Summer skies

It’s been a pretty perfect summer here in Charm City— a mix of hot and sunny with a healthy dose of rain. But I will admit it’s been a disappointing year so far for the big storms that blow in with hurricanes. The upside of course is everything has grown like a glorious jungle and…

  • Clouds

It’s no secret that I take a lot of pictures— some more “serious” photographs but most probably qualify as snapshots. Recently I’ve noticed how many snaps I seem to take of clouds. It was never a conscious goal to document clouds, nor do I spend much time in real life looking up at the sky.…
